Budget Living to Cease Publication
Women's lifestyle monthly, Budget Living Magazine, will cease publication after four years in the business. An official announcement is expected on Wednesday. About 50 staffers will be affected by the close. The magazine's March 2006 issue will be its last.
Budget Living's advice on shopping, home and entertaining for the cost-conscious consumer attracted a dedicated readership and earned an American Society of Magazine Editors' National Magazine Award for General Excellence in 2004. But the 500,000-circ monthly has remained in a state of flux since founding editor Sarah Gray Miller left last spring.
Owner Don Welsh shopped the title around as recently as December but failed to rope in a buyer. Welsh also unsuccessfully put Budget Living up for sale in 2004. (He had more success with Budget Travel Magazine, which he founded in 1998 and sold to Newsweek a year later.)
